EVERY ARTIST WALKS THEIR OWN WINDING PATH,<\/b>\u00a0but\u00a0Hunter Biden<\/a><\/b>\u2019s journey is turning out to be stranger than most. His New York dealer,\u00a0Georges Berg\u00e8s<\/b>, has said he thinks he can get\u00a0as much as $500,000<\/a>\u00a0for the presidential son\u2019s artworks: great news for the younger Biden!\u00a0Less great: the ensuing swirl of complaints that people might buy work to curry favor with\u00a0President Biden<\/b>\u2019s administration. Consequently, the\u00a0New York Times<\/i>\u00a0reports, the\u00a0White House<\/b>\u00a0has come up with\u00a0an ethics arrangement<\/a>\u00a0that requires Berg\u00e8s to keep secret the names of buyers and the prices they pay.\u00a0Some watchdogs have offered measured praise for the plan, while others are unimpressed. \u201cThis was a perfect opportunity for the Biden White House to demonstrate how they are committed to elevating ethics and not allowing their family to trade in on the power of the White House,\u201d\u00a0Danielle Brian<\/b>, the\u00a0Project on Government Oversight<\/b>\u2019s executive director, told the\u00a0Times<\/i>. \u201cThey\u2019ve disappointed us.\u201d<\/p>\n

LEONARDO JUST CANNOT STAY OUT OF THE NEWS.<\/b>\u00a0His living descendants were\u00a0recently identified<\/a>, a rediscovered drawing has\u00a0sparked a legal war<\/a>\u00a0in France, and now a silverpoint that he made of a bear\u2019s head, measuring three inches on each side, has sold at a\u00a0Christie\u2019s\u00a0<\/b>Old Master auction in London for \u00a38.9 million, or about $12.2 million\u2014a\u00a0record for a drawing<\/a>\u00a0by Leonardo, the\u00a0New York Times<\/i>\u00a0reports. (The high mark for any work by Leonardo is, of course, still\u00a0$450.3 million<\/a>, paid for the\u00a0Salvator Mundi<\/i>\u00a0in 2017.) A total of\u00a0seven artist records fell\u00a0<\/a>at the sale, the\u00a0Art Newspaper<\/i>\u00a0reports, including those for\u00a0Georges de La Tour<\/b>,\u00a0Marco Ricci<\/b>, and\u00a0Bernardo Bellotto<\/b>, who had a 1745\u201347 view of Verona, Italy, go for about \u00a310.6 million, or $14.6 million.<\/p>\n

The French historian\u00a0Jean Chatelus<\/a>, who was also an adventurous art collector, died this week at the age of 82.<\/p>\n

Two gargantuan media works by the South Korean art group a\u2019strict will go on view on screens in Times Square in New York later this month. One depicts a towering waterfall, the other a swimming whale.<\/p>\n

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has named Stephan Wolohojian to the powerful post of curator in charge of its department of European paintings.<\/p>\n

STARTING JULY 22 AT HIS WOOSTER STREET GALLERY<\/b>\u00a0in New York, the dealer\u00a0Jeffrey Deitch<\/b>\u00a0will present a\u00a0continuous, 24-hour screening<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0Miles Greenberg<\/b>\u2019s\u00a0Oysterknife<\/i>\u00a0(2020) performance\u2014a livestream\u00a0of Greenberg walking\u00a0on a treadmill for a full day.\u00a0\u201cIt was very easily the single most physically and mentally challenging thing I had ever done,\u201d<\/b>\u00a0the artist told\u00a0T: The New York Times Style Magazine\u00a0<\/i>\u00a0earlier this year<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019ve never gone through anything like that before.\u201d The artist \u201ctook no breaks of any kind (save for a 25-minute loss of consciousness around Hour 16).\u201d Mercifully, viewers can come and go over a couple weeks\u00a0to watch the whole thing.
