Stephen Friedman Gallery Now Represents Tau Lewis<\/i>
\nStephen Friedman Gallery<\/b>\u00a0in London now represents Canadian artist\u00a0Tau Lewis<\/b>. A self-taught artist, Lewis employs carving, assemblage, and hand-sewing to construct intricate sculptural portraits and quilts.\u00a0Referring to her artistic practice as \u201can upcycling of a circumstance,\u201d she reconfigures found objects as conduits between real and imagined ancestors.\u00a0She currently has a solo show on view at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa. Later this year, her work will be featured in group exhibitions at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, Sadie Coles in London, and Prospect.5 in New Orleans.<\/p>\n

Anton Kern Gallery<\/a>\u00a0Now Represents Marcus Jahmal<\/i>
\nNew York\u2019s\u00a0Anton Kern Gallery<\/b>\u00a0has added\u00a0Marcus Jahmal<\/b>, a young artist known for his dreamlike figurative paintings, to its roster. The New York\u2013based artist typically paints inspired equally by his own memories and art history, and his works have been known to include anthropomorphic animals, card players, skulls, landscapes, and more. Earlier this year, he was the subject of a solo exhibition at Almine Rech gallery in Paris, which also represents him. Serpentine Launches Artist Fellowship Program<\/i>
\nTo mark the 20th anniversary of the\u00a0Serpentine Pavilion,<\/b>\u00a0London\u2019s\u00a0Serpentine Galleries<\/a><\/b>\u00a0has announced a new fellowship for artists working at the\u00a0intersection of art,\u00a0 politics and community practice. Ten artists have been selected for the inaugural program, titled\u00a0\u201cSupport Structures for Support Structures.\u201d Each will receive an unrestricted grant of \u00a310,000 to develop creative projects as well as a mentorship. The recipients are\u00a0Abbas Zahedi,\u00a0<\/b>an\u00a0<\/b>interdisciplinary artist whose practice blends philosophy, poetics, and social dynamics;\u00a0Barby Asante<\/b>,\u00a0<\/b>an\u00a0<\/b>artist, curator and educator whose practice is concerned with the histories and legacies of slavery and colonialism;\u00a0Beverley Bennett<\/b><\/a>, an\u00a0<\/b>artist and filmmaker whose work revolves around the possibilities of drawing, performance, and sound;\u00a0Blak Outside<\/b>, a\u00a0collective focused on organizing diverse and inclusive events;\u00a0Ferarts Collective,\u00a0<\/b>an\u00a0artist-led group that elevates underrepresented and socially-engaged creatives based in West London;\u00a0Jacob V. Joyce,\u00a0<\/b>a nonbinary artist with a practice that amplifies historical and emerging queer and decolonial narratives;\u00a0Nawi Collective,\u00a0<\/b>a\u00a0London-based black women and femmes\u2019 vocal group;\u00a0Other Cinema<\/a>,\u00a0<\/b>a\u00a0<\/b>multidisciplinary film collective;\u00a0Resolve Collective,\u00a0<\/b>a design group that combines architecture, engineering, and art to address social challenges; and\u00a0Skin Deep,<\/b>\u00a0a pre<\/b>dominantly Black and POC-led collective supporting creative projects.<\/div>\n
