HAS\u00a0BANKSY\u00a0STRUCK AGAIN?<\/b>\u00a0A painting that looks like a work by the anonymous British artist has\u00a0popped up on a wall<\/a>\u00a0in Lowestoft, on the east coast of England, the\u00a0Guardian<\/i>\u00a0reports. The artist\u2019s\u00a0Instagram account\u00a0\u00a0has not yet authenticated it. It shows three children in a boat, accompanied by text that reads, \u201cWE\u2019RE ALL IN THE SAME BOAT.\u201d (As it happens, the American artist\u00a0Otis Houston, Jr.<\/b>\u00a0artist drew on\u00a0that same idiom<\/a>\u00a0for a text work a few years ago.) Authorities\u00a0removed the scrap metal\u00a0comprising the boat because it was blocking a drain,\u00a0Sky News<\/i>\u00a0reports. Other potential Banksys\u00a0have popped in the area recently, including a painting of a couple dancing atop a bus shelter.\u00a0Paul Gough<\/b>, a Banksy expert who is vice chancellor of\u00a0Arts University Bournemouth<\/b>\u00a0told\u00a0BBC News\u00a0<\/i>that he is \u201cpretty sure\u201d the pieces are\u00a0the genuine article<\/a>. Said Gough, \u201cBanksy has clearly been enjoying an East Anglian staycation: these are very sophisticated stencils showing an artist at the top of his game.\u201d<\/p>\n

TWO MAJOR ARCHAEOLOGICAL DISPLAYS ARE IN THE OFFING.<\/b>\u00a0In the doomed city of\u00a0Pompeii<\/i>, an ancient snack bar\u00a0will open to visitors\u00a0on Thursday,\u00a0Deutsche Presse-Agentur<\/i>\u00a0reports. The bo\u00eete was discovered in 2019, and excavated further last year, revealing\u00a0well-preserved paintings<\/a>\u00a0of ducks, a rooster, and more, as\u00a0ARTnews\u00a0<\/i>reported. Researchers believe it served a stew of fish, snails, and sheep, as well as wine. Meanwhile, across the Mediterranean, Egyptian officials moved\u00a0Pharaoh Khufu<\/b>\u00a0roughly\u00a04,600-year-old solar boat<\/a>\u00a0from a display site near the\u00a0Grand Pyramid<\/b>\u00a0to the\u00a0Grand Egyptian Museum<\/b>, which is slated to open later this year,\u00a0Agence France-Presse<\/i>\u00a0reports. The artist Nancy Frankel, who made energetic abstract sculptures, often painted in vibrant shades, and who helped found women\u2019s art organizations in Washington, D.C., was found dead in her Maryland home. She was 92. A suspect has been arrested in connection with Frankel\u2019s death and charged with first-degree murder.<\/p>\n

A battle is raging in San Francisco over a road in Golden Gate Park that was limited to pedestrians and cyclists during the pandemic. Proponents of the closure say it provides much-needed green space, while cultural institutions in the park, including the de Young Museum, say it is making it difficult for their patrons to visit by car. \u201cIt\u2019s the last thing we need as we try to reopen and get the museums back up and functioning, \u201d said Thomas P. Campbell, the director of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, which includes the de Young.<\/p>\n

Barry Joule, who donated more than 1,000 sketches and other documents from his friend, artist Francis Bacon, to Tate in 2004, is threatening legal action to pull the gift, alleging that the museum has not made good on its promises to showcase the material.
