The group of works\u2014six paintings, two sculptures, and a sketchbook\u2014were donated by Ruiz-Picasso to help settle an inheritance tax bill, French finance minister Bruno Le Maire said during a press conference Monday at the\u00a0<a id=\"auto-tag_picasso-museum\" href=\"https:\/\/www.atelierauction.com\/globalupdates\/\" data-tag=\"picasso-museum\">Picasso Museum<\/a>\u00a0in Paris.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is an honour for our country to welcome these new artworks by Picasso. They will enrich and deepen our cultural heritage,\u201d Le Maire wrote on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>At the press conference, Le Maire presented\u00a0one work to the audience, the 1938 painting called\u00a0<em>Child with a Lollipop Sitting Under a Chair<\/em>. According to Olivier Widmaier-Picasso, the artist\u2019s grandson, the painting depicts his mother Maya. Widmaier-Picasso was present at the ceremony alongside Maya and his sister, Diana. The oldest work in the collection is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/AtelierAuctionsg\"><em>Don Jose Ruiz<\/em><\/a>, a\u00a0portrait from 1895 of Picasso\u2019s father.<\/p>\n<p>Citizens of France have been allowed to settle similar debts to Ruiz-Picasso\u2019s with a payment of arts, books, and collectibles of national importance since 1968, though such high-profile gifts are rare.
