Five works by\u00a0Claude Monet<\/a>\u00a0from the same collection could fetch a collective \u00a335 million ($50 million) during a modern and contemporary art evening sale at Sotheby\u2019s that will take place in London on March 2. All five of the works are being offered with a guarantee. They are coming to market from a private American collection.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Sotheby\u2019s European chairman and worldwide head of Impressionist and modern art, Helena Newman, said that recent interest in works by Monet \u201chas taken on an even more renewed vigor<\/a>.\u201d Asian collectors, in particular, have fueled the rise in the artist\u2019s market, she said.<\/p>\n

A Sotheby\u2019s spokesperson in London told\u00a0ARTnews<\/em>\u00a0that, in 2020, as the pandemic began, fewer Monets began entering the market. Now, the house has seen more consignments of works by Monet\u2014and greater demand for them.<\/p>\n

Among the most valuable works from the group is\u00a0Massif de chrysanthe\u0300mes<\/em>, a painting of chrysanthemums produced in 1897, the same year Monet began his water lily pond series. It is estimated to fetch \u00a310 million\u2013\u00a315 million ($13.6 million\u2013$20 million). Also heading to auction is\u00a0Les Demoiselles de Giverny<\/em>\u00a0(1892\u201393), a hazy landscape scene depicting a field of haystacks. It is estimated at \u00a315 million\u2013\u00a320 million ($20 million\u2013$27 million). The former work entered the seller\u2019s collection in 2004, the latter, in 2012.<\/p>\n

Two of the works are waterside scenes:\u00a0Glac\u0327ons, environs de Bennecourt\u00a0<\/em>(1892\u201393), which is estimated at \u00a35 million\u2013\u00a37 million ($6.8 million\u2013$9.5 million) and depicting the Seine in the winter; and\u00a0Sur la falaise pre\u0300s de Dieppe, soleil couchant\u00a0<\/em>(1897), featuring the Normandy coast, which is estimated at \u00a33.5 million\u2013\u00a35 million ($4.8 million\u2013$6.8 million).\u00a0Prunes et Abricots\u00a0<\/em>(1882\u201385), a still life of a bowl of fruits, is estimated at \u00a31.2 million\u2013\u00a31.8 million ($1.6 million\u2013$2.5 million).<\/p>\n

Each of the paintings will go in view to the public at Sotheby\u2019s outposts<\/a> in New York, Hong Kong, and Taipei before reaching their final destination in Location ahead of the auction on March 2.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
