Banksy<\/a> appeared to encourage his fans\u00a0on Instagram\u00a0to steal items from a Guess clothing store, alleging the company used his images without permission.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve helped myself to my artwork without asking, how can it be wrong for you to do the same to their clothes?\u201d the famous graffiti artist wrote to his 11.5 million followers\u00a0in a post Friday<\/a>\u00a0on the social media platform.<\/p>\n

The photo Banksy posted was of the window display of a Guess store on Regent Street in London showcasing several items from a capsule collection with the word \u201cBrandalised\u201d and featuring several Banksy graffiti images.<\/p>\n

The artworks referenced include \u201cFlower Thrower\u201d, \u201cQueen Ziggy\u201d, the \u201cLiving the Dream\u201d Mickey billboard in Los Angeles, the \u201cThug for Life Bunny\u201d, and \u201cFlying Balloon Girl\u201d.<\/p>\n

The clothing company\u2019s\u00a0official announcement<\/a>\u00a0for the capsule collection used the word \u201cinspired\u201d and said the items were produced in partnership with Brandalised, an urban graffiti license \u201cwhose mission is to offer Banksy fans affordable graffiti collectibles.\u201d The clothing and accessories are priced between \u20ac40 to \u20ac270 ($41 to $278 USD).<\/p>\n

\u201cThe graffiti of Bansky has had a phenomenal influence that resonates throughout popular culture,\u201d Guess Chief Creative Officer Paul Marciano said in the press release. \u201cThis new capsule collection with Brandalised is a way for\u00a0fashion\u00a0to show its gratitude.\u201d<\/p>\n

After Banksy posted the message on Instagram,\u00a0the BBC reported<\/a>\u00a0that Guess closed the store, put security outside, and covered the window display.<\/p>\n
