Yorkshire collector Ronnie Duncan<\/b>\u00a0has bequeathed a major gift of art to the\u00a0Hepworth Wakefield<\/b>. The gift includes around 30 paintings and drawings by artists including Trevor Bell, Alan Davie, Terry Frost, Ian Hamilton Finlay, and Roger Hilton. The gift was made in honor of the late Helen Kapp, a former director of the Wakefield Art Gallery who was responsible for building out its mid-century British art collection. A selection from Duncan\u2019s gift to Wakefield, including five sculptures by Rachel Whiteread, is now on display.<\/p>\n

Artadia and 21c Museum Hotels Launch New Award for Artists<\/i>
\nAs part of a longterm partnership, the New York\u2013based grant-making nonprofit\u00a0Artadia<\/b>\u00a0and the\u00a021c Museum Hotels<\/b>\u00a0are launching the\u00a021c Artadia Award<\/b>\u00a0in Louisville, Kentucky,\u00a0<\/b>this year. The annual award will provide $10,000 in unrestricted funds to one artist in the Louisville metro area, and future award cycles are planned for Kansas City, Missouri; Durham, North Carolina; and Nashville, Tennessee. The open call application for the Louisville award will be open from May 15 to June 15, and the awardee will be named in July.<\/p>\n

Pilar Corrias To Open Second London Space<\/i>
\nThe London-based\u00a0Pilar Corrias Gallery<\/b>\u00a0will open a second space in the British capital on May 25. Located at 2\u00a0Savile Row, the 1,200-square-foot gallery is designed by\u00a0the architectural studio Hesselbrand. The inaugural exhibition at the new gallery will feature works by\u00a0Tala Madani<\/b>.<\/p>\n

\nNew York\u2019s\u00a0Swiss Institute<\/b>\u00a0has elected three new board members:\u00a0Olivier Audemars<\/b>, a member of the family that runs the watch company Audemars Piguet;\u00a0Philippe Bertherat<\/b>,\u00a0a photography collector and former managing partner of the Pictet Group; and\u00a0Latifa\u00a0Echakhch<\/b>, an artist representing Switzerland at the 2022 Venice Biennale. \u201cThis has undeniably been one of the most challenging years in recent memory for arts organizations worldwide, but the support that we have seen for the organization from our current board, and these three visionary new members, is nothing short of extraordinary,\u201d Swiss Institute board chair Maja Hoffmann said.<\/p>\n

MARCH Names New Editor<\/i>
\nThe art and strategy journal\u00a0MARCH<\/i><\/b>\u00a0has named artist and writer\u00a0Gelare Khoshgozaran<\/b>\u00a0as a new editor. Khoshgozaran is a cofounder of the publication\u00a0contemptorary<\/i>, which foregrounded queer perspectives and women of color. She has also published work with the\u00a0Brooklyn Rail<\/i>, the\u00a0Los Angeles Review of Books<\/i>, and other outlets. Khoshgozaran was received the\u00a0Creative Capital | Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant in 2015, and she maintains a research-based artistic practice.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Getty Adds New Board Member<\/i>
\nJaynie Miller Studenmund<\/b>, the former chief operating officer for Overture Services, has joined the\u00a0J. Paul Getty Trust<\/b>\u00a0board of trustees. Studenmund has focused on financial services, digital, data, and consumer businesses in her career. David L. Lee, chair of the Getty board of trustees, said in a statement, \u201cJaynie\u2019s extensive leadership experience across many different fields will serve the Getty well. Gallery Weekend Beijing 2021 Reveals Dates, Exhibitors\u00a0<\/i>
\nThe fifth edition of\u00a0Gallery Weekend Beijing\u00a0<\/b>will run from April 27 through May 2 at Beijing\u2019s 798 Art Zone and five other various sites across the city. Thirty-seven galleries, nonprofit spaces, and independent institutions will present solo and group exhibitions, with first-time exhibitors including\u00a0Beijing Inside-Out Art Museum, Espace Louis Vuitton, Hua International, and SHIXIANG SPACE. Beijing-based critic and independent curator Bao Dong will curate this year\u2019s Public Sector, which draws its theme from the concept of public space as a tool for cultural conversations.<\/p>\n

Lyles & King Adds Catalina Ouyang to its Roster<\/i>
\nNew York gallery\u00a0Lyles & King<\/b>\u00a0now represents\u00a0Catalina Ouyang\u00a0<\/b>in collaboration with Make Room in Los Angeles. Ouyang\u2019s interdisciplinary practice, which spans sculpture, installation, and time-based media, engages with themes of desire, oppression, and dissidence. Their work is currently on view at Real Art Ways and SculptureCenter. Ouyang will have their second solo show with Lyles & King this September.<\/p>\n

Vivian Suter<\/a>\u00a0Wins 2021 Prix Meret Oppenheim<\/i>
\nArtist\u00a0Vivian Suter<\/b>\u00a0is among the recipients of the\u00a02021 Swiss Grand Award for Art \/ Prix Meret Oppenheim<\/b>, which honors the achievements in the fields of art, architecture and curation in Switzerland and beyond. Each award carries a cash prize of CHF 40,000 ($43,300). Suter, a Swiss-Argentinian painter, is known for her vibrant abstract canvases, which act as studies of the dense nature surrounding her Guatemala studio, as well as her inner self. Her work will be the focus of\u00a0two solo exhibitions this year: in June at the Museo Reina Sof\u00eda in Madrid and in November at the Kunstmuseum Luzern in Switzerland, where she will have a retrospective. Fellow recipients are George Descombes for architecture and artist and curator Esther Eppstein for critique and exhibition.<\/p>\n
