James Cohan Adds Christopher Myers to Roster<\/em>
\nThe New York\u2013based gallery\u00a0James Cohan<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0now represents\u00a0Christopher Myers<\/strong>. He will have his first solo exhibition with the gallery in February 2022, and the gallery will show his work in London this October as part of Frieze\u2019s new No. 9 Cork Street initiative in the city\u2019s tony Mayfair district. Myers is best known for his textile-based works that look at highlighting under-known histories, particularly those of people from the African diaspora. He is also a writer with pieces published by the New York Times, and he is currently at work on a book about issues of censorship around the world. His theatrical work\u00a0Fire in the Head: The Journals of Vaslav Nijinsky<\/em>\u00a0will premiere at the Crossing the Line Festival in New York later this year, and\u00a0King Leopold II<\/em>, a collaboration with Kaneza Schaal, will debut at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis next January.<\/p>\n

UCLA\u2019s Chicano Studies Research Center Receives Grant for Research Related to Raphael Monta\u00f1ez Ortiz<\/em>
\nArtist\u00a0Raphael Monta\u00f1ez Ortiz<\/strong>\u00a0has gifted $1.45 million to the\u00a0UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0to support research and scholarship into his work. It is the largest gift in the CSRC\u2019s history. The newly established Raphael Monta\u00f1ez Ortiz Endowed Fund will allow for the production of publications, exhibitions, programming, and fellowships related to the artist\u2019s extensive papers and archive, which he donated to UCLA in 2015. Monta\u00f1ez Ortiz is best known as a leading figure of the Destructivist movement of the 1960s, of which his part-concert, part-destruction of a piano is emblematic. He was also the founder and first director of\u00a0El Museo del Barrio<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in New York, which will mount a retrospective of the artist next year.<\/p>\n

Lyles & King Adds Kathy Ruttenber to its Roster<\/em>
\nLyles & King<\/strong>\u00a0in New York now represents multidisciplinary artist\u00a0Kathy Ruttenberg<\/strong>. Her practice spans sculpture, painting, and animation. Over the last four decades her focus has shifted toward sculpture, with recent bodies of work including monumental bronze pieces and small-scale ceramics that explore themes of ecofeminism, animal liberation, and sexuality. Her first solo exhibition with Lyles & King is slated for 2022.<\/p>\n

Pollock-Krasner Foundation Gives Out $3.35 M. in Grants<\/em>
\nThe\u00a0Pollock-Krasner Foundation<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0has awarded $3.35 million in grants to 137 artists and organizations. Among those who received grants are Olga Balema, Matthew Angelo Harrison, Sharon Lockhart, and Asim Waqif. The Whitney Museum in New York, the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Kunsthalle Basel, and the Centre Pompidou also received funding. In\u00eas Grosso Named Chief Curator of Serralves Museum<\/em>
\nThe\u00a0Serralves Museum<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in Porto, Portugal, has hired\u00a0In\u00eas Grosso<\/strong>\u00a0to be its next chief curator. She is currently the head of international programming at the MAAT-Museu de Arte, Arquitetura e Tecnologia in Lisbon and previously held worked at Brazil\u2019s Inhotim Institute. In a statement, Serralves Museum director Philippe Vergne said, \u201cHer curatorial expertise, her knowledge of museums needs and priorities, her collegial understanding of artist, and her commitment to inclusivity are truly impressive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eyebeam Adds Two Directors to Board<\/em>
\nSalome Asega<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Rufaro Makanda<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0have joined the board of directors of the New York\u2013based arts nonprofit\u00a0Eyebeam<\/strong>. Asega is an artist and researcher who was a 2015\u201316 resident at Eyebeam. Makanda, who will be the board\u2019s treasurer, is an investment banking vice president at Bank of America. Earlier this year, the organization\u00a0announced\u00a0that it would restructure its influential residency program by allowing past residents to select subsequent cohorts of artists and making use of an open-call system. In a statement, board chair Joe Versace said, \u201cAs we de-center Eyebeam and hand authority over to artists so that they may enliven a more humane digital realm, we look forward to the vision, advice, and guidance of our newest leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n

Saint Louis Art Museum Names New Director<\/i>
\nThe\u00a0Saint Louis Art Museum<\/a><\/b>\u00a0has appointed\u00a0Min Jung Kim<\/b>\u00a0as its new director, making her the first woman to lead the institution in its 142-year history. She will take her post later this summer. Kim currently is the director and CEO of the New Britain Museum of American Art in Connecticut. Prior to leading that museum, she served worked\u00a0 at the Guggenheim Museum in New York for over a decade as its director of content alliances. \u201cI am excited to build upon the museum\u2019s strong foundational base, get to know and partner with the diverse communities of St. Louis, and work with the talented team of the Saint Louis Art Museum in taking the institution to even greater heights,\u201d Kim said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Jarman Award Reveals 2021 Shortlist<\/i>
\nThe\u00a0Jarman Award<\/b>, an annual art prize honoring United Kingdom\u2013based artists who make moving-image work, has revealed its shortlist for 2021. The artists nominated this year for the \u00a310,000 ($13,900) award are\u00a0Adham Faramawy<\/b>,\u00a0Georgina Starr<\/b>,\u00a0Gary Oliver<\/b>,\u00a0Jasmina Cibic<\/b>,\u00a0Larry Achiampong<\/b><\/a>, and\u00a0Sophia Al-Maria<\/b>. Adam Wootton, chief executive of Film London and the British Film Commission, said in a statement, \u201cUnder the extremely difficult circumstances that the past year has presented, it is both impressive and inspirational that these artists have continued to create and show work that questions, challenges and shapes the world around us.\u201d<\/p>\n

L.A.\u2019s\u00a0Regen Projects\u00a0Hires Former MOCA Curator as Director<\/em>
\nThe Los Angeles\u2013based gallery\u00a0Regen Projects<\/strong>\u00a0has hired two directors:\u00a0Bryan Barcena<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Stephanie Dudzinski<\/strong><\/a>. Barcena was most recently an assistant curator and manager of publications at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, where he organized exhibitions of Gala Porras-Kim and Mona Hatoum, as well as an acclaimed Anna Maria Maiolino retrospective that opened as part of the Getty-funded Pacific Standard Time: LA\/LA in 2017. Dudzinski has previously worked at some of the world\u2019s leading galleries, including Gagosian, Sadie Coles HQ, and Cherry and Martin.<\/p>\n

Paris\u2019s Mor Charpentier to Open in Bogot\u00e1<\/em>
\nThe Paris-based gallery\u00a0Mor Charpentier<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0will open a new space in Bogot\u00e1, Colombia, in the city\u2019s Teusaquillo neighborhood. Founded in 2010 by dealers Alex Mor and Philippe Charpentier, the gallery is among France\u2019s most respected art spaces and represents 28 artists, including Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Paz Err\u00e1zuriz, Teresa Margolles, Carlos Motta, Uriel Orlow, and Liliana Porter. In a statement posted to Facebook, the gallery said, \u201cThe city of Bogot\u00e1 has always held a special place for us, from its bustling contemporary art scene to its fascinating history, it has often felt like a second home for Mor Charpentier.\u201d<\/p>\n

Untitled, Art Details 2021 Edition in Miami Beach<\/em>
\nThe 2021 Miami Beach edition of the\u00a0Untitled, Art<\/strong>\u00a0fair will take place December 1 through 5. For this year\u2019s fair\u2014the 10th one held by Untitled in Miami Beach\u2014Omar L\u00f3pez-Chahoud<\/strong>\u00a0will serve as artistic director. He will work in collaboration with\u00a0Natasha Becker<\/strong>, curator of African art at the de Young Museum in San Francisco;\u00a0Miguel A. L\u00f3pez<\/strong><\/a>, former co-director and chief curator of TEOR\/\u00e9Tica in San Jos\u00e9, Costa Rica;\u00a0Estrellita Brodsky<\/strong>, collector and philanthropist; and\u00a0Jose Falconi<\/strong>, lecturer of Latin American art and architecture at the University of Connecticut.
